Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements

What kind of work do you do now?

I am currently working at Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) belonging to the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Prime Minister’s Secretariat. The main tasks of KRIHS are to develop long-term and short-term plans and policies to lead to more efficient use of land resources and to restructure imbalanced spatial structures. In KRIHS, I carry out various research projects for land use planning, urban planning facility, and greenbelt system and so on.

What did you learn in Urban Engineering?

I have been interested in factors affecting the population aging in metropolitan new towns developed during the rapid growth era and the population aging process of these new towns and prospected the resident aging pattern in the era of population aging and decline. So I had studied the change of physical and demographic characteristics of new town residents from the initial stage of new town development to the present through the case of Japan, which has already experienced the population aging issues.
